Start Right: Thoughtful, Skill-First Dive Training#
Entering the world of scuba diving is a big step. We’re here to make sure that step is meaningful, safe, and designed to support your long-term success as a diver — whether you stop at Open Water or go much further.
The SDI Open Water SCUBA Diver certification will allow you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters, with a buddy of similar or higher certification.
SDI Open Water Scuba Diver (OWSD)#
This is the first course that officially certifies you as a diver. Our SDI Open Water Scuba Diver training provides a solid foundation that will serve you no matter where you dive next — with an emphasis on true competence, not minimum standards.
We follow the full agency standards and add even more value wherever it benefits your safety, confidence, and future growth as a diver.
Above and beyond#
Most dive courses meet agency minimums (we hope). That’s a great starting point — but we believe most divers benefit from going further, with more time, personal attention, and hands-on practice to truly build confidence and skill.
We take a deeper, more structured approach, offering more time, better equipment, smaller groups (just you, unless you decide to bring a buddy), and true mastery of foundational skills.
Comparison: Standard Dive Training vs. Our Approach#
Category | Typical Entry-Level Course | Our Beginner Courses |
---|---|---|

Number of open water dives | 3-4, typically 20 mins each | minimum of 5, with ample time to practice |
Instructor Focus | 1:8 or more students | 1:1 or 1:2 personalized attention |
Academic learning | read a PDF, then lectures | Online learning, followed by debriefs focused on you |
Equipment Used | Basic school gear | Top-end gear: XDEEP, Scubapro, Shearwater |
Methods of teaching | Kneel down on to bottom mostly | Neutral buoyancy from day one (swim like a fish) |

Skills Retention | Minimal time for repetition | Repeated practice & feedback |
Long-Term Readiness | Just enough to pass | Ready to dive independently and progress |

What to expect#
Intro call
Get to know each other
We start with a no-strings-attached introductory call. We'd like to meet up, understand your goals, ideal outcomes and background so that we can perfectly tailor your learning experience.Planning
If it's not in your calendar it doesn't happen
Once you have decided to move forward, we will plan the outline of our calendar. We'll discuss availability, logistics and any travel involved (complete with our tested accommodation recommendations of course). You'll also receive an email with helpful information about what to expect in your course, dos and don'ts and how to make sure you're ready.E-learning
Online, at your preferred pace
After you've enrolled, we'll set you up for e-learning. This way you will be able to go through the content at your own pace, knowing that we're always one quick text away if you have any questions.Equipment selection (optional)
We'll help you choose any equipment you'd like to start with
Many of our divers prefer buying their own basic equipment (masks, wetsuits, fins) for the added comfort of perfect fit. We support that choice and will go as far as joining you for a shopping spree.Knowledge review
Review and retain what you have learned
Based on your preference, this phase can be done online or in-person. We do prefer the in-person version as it gives you the opportunity to actually see and use diving equipment, but we'll adapt to your needs.Confined water sessions
Your first breath underwater
This is it! Time to take the literal plunge :D. We will guide you through your first underwater experience in shallow, pool-like conditions. Depending on the season, location and your preference, this may happen in a (heated!) pool or the sea or ocean. Regardless, we'll be with you every step of the way.Open water sessions
Onwards and downwards
Next we're going into the actual open water (sea, ocean). We're going to be a little deeper, practicing the same skills you've learned in your confined water sessions. Towards the end of your open water dives we will also have at least one boat day, so that you can experience this type of diving first hand. During surface intervals (between dives) we will be having additional workshops around key topics, like etiquette and being an eco-friendly diver.Graduation
Getting your first (digital) C-card
Once we're both satisfied that you meet (and exceed, if you're training with us) the required standards, the only remaining thing to do will be your graduation ceremony! You will also receive your digital certification (cause you know... plastic) and we'll discuss your future plans.
Let’s Talk About Your First Step#
